A PRODUCTIVE RETURN TO WORK

The summer holidays have come to an end. The beach, the sun and warm summer rays are now a distant memory. The office is beginning to fill up again, shatter and activity are all about, your phone is ringing off the hook and the e-mails are starting to flood in.

Are you experiencing a certain amount of apprehension at the thought of returning to work? Does the very thought of the office cause "back to work blues"? Everything doesn't have to seem so glum. A little planning and a few positive steps can help employees ease back into work without losing their refreshing and recharged selves.

Overcoming the post-holiday blues

According to psychology researchers at the University of Granada in Spain, if yon have troiihle settling back into your daily work routine, you've probably got a case of what is known as Post-Holiday Syndrome. Symptoms can include tiredness, lack of appetite, anxiety and muscle aches. To return to your productive selves and prolong the benefits of your vacation, try some of these tips:

1. Tie up loose ends before you go

Take a moment and make a list of urgent tasks you have to get out of the way before you leave on vacation and tick them off as you accomplish them. This will allow you to go on vacation without having to worry about everything you will have to deal with after you return to the office. Having a visual checklist will also ensure that you don't have any distractions during your vacation. You will be able to focus on your relaxation and not on the work you will have to get to when you get back.

2. Don't dive into work head first

Take things slow and easy. Schedule a buffer day between your vacation and your return to work. Then, once at work, don't try to catch-up on everything you have missed while you we'e gone. This is an impossible and pointless task which will only cause undue stress. Instead, prioritize what needs to be done first and work though your tasks in a progressive and thoughtful manner.

3. Remind yourself ol your recent vacation

When we go on vacation we don't just return with our suitcases but with a wealth of impressions and positive emotions. Why not try to savour these feelings and turn them into inspirations? Pin up a holiday picture or bring back a sonvenirfor your workspace. When you are :eeling down or overwhelmed during the first few days back, think about your vacation and everything you saw and experienced. You will feel the pressure dissipate and more harmony rush in.

4. Put things in focus

Vacations offer time for reflection. Use your time to think about where you are going and what you want out of life, and what makes you happy.

Vacations can help employees review their feelings towards their current positions and help them plan out their future career goals and plans. These four key tips should keep your spirits high and make getting back to work less stressful.

The fall season brings opportunity

September may be a month which signals the end of summer for employees, but for employers it marks the beginning of a wave of recruitment which lasts into October. Employers and recruiters will both agree that there are four major seasonal hiring cycles, one of them being September and October. Autumn is a peak period for recruitment because company hiring decisions are typically taken by consensus and require agreement from many different structures. Consequently, hiring usually takes place when people are in the office. Recruitment companies which understand the dynamics of seasonal recruitment cycles know how to manage their talent pipelines effectively year-round and provide their client companies with candidates of the right caliber at the right time. Autumn is therefore a season full of promise and opportunity when it comes to connecting the right candidates with the right job opportunities.
