Resumes are your promotional materials in a job search. They must illustrate what you have accomplished and should point out what benefits you can bring to a potential employer. Unfortunately, many Candidates do not know how to compose a resume which make potential employers stop and look.
Here are some tips on how to compose a winning resume
- Tailor your resume to fit the criteria your employer is looking for.
- Focus on what you "achieved" not on what you "did".
- Accent the positive. Leave off negatives and irrelevant points.
- Use action words like prepared, developed, monitored, and presented.
- Be honest and truthful.
- Make your resume easy to read. Remember, resumes are reviewed quickly.
- Ensure the document is well presented, has accurate dates and no spelling mistakes.
- Don't make the resume too long. Keep it to 2 - 3 pages.
- Have someone else review your resume and give you feedback.

An interview is a conversation between an employer and a Candidate. The employer wants to make the right cultural and personality fit as well as ensure you have the specific skills to do the job. You, the Candidate, want to see if you are going to be happy working with them.
Get the basics right first:
- Arrive about 15 - 20 minutes prior to your interview.
- Bring an extra copy of your resume and references.
- Dress for success (look professional).
- Make eye contact and be aware of body language.
- Know the names and positions of the people interviewing you.
